Walnut Dining Tables: Handcrafted from Salvaged Oregon Black Walnut
Walnut is my specialty, and more customers choose it than any other wood I work with. It's not hard to understand why. Oregon black walnut is an explosion of color unlike anything else. Most people think of that deep brown paired with creamy sapwood but salvaged Oregon walnut goes so much further. Blues, purples, reds, grays... colors you'd never expect from wood, swirling through the grain in combinations that are impossible to predict and impossible to replicate. Add in the dramatic figure you only get from urban and wild grown trees and you have something you can't find anywhere else. Every board is different, and that's what makes it so special.
What Makes Oregon Black Walnut Different?
Oregon black walnut is fundamentally different from the commercially grown Eastern walnut you'll find in most furniture. The trees I work with are often 80 to 100 years old, salvaged from urban removals, storm damage, and private land across the Pacific Northwest. Oregon's mild, wet climate allows walnut trees to grow faster and larger than in other parts of the country, which means bigger slabs and more interesting wood. That age, combined with the soil and growing conditions here, produce a spectrum of color and grain character that is unmatched.
I source exclusively through my partnership with Goby Walnut, one of the premier walnut suppliers in the world. Having them right here in Portland means I can hand-select boards in person, which makes all the difference.
Walnut Dining Table Styles
Live Edge - The natural edge of the tree stays intact, giving you that organic, one-of-a-kind look. It's refined craftsmanship that still feels connected to the forest.
Straight Edge - Clean lines, squared edges, contemporary feel. Great if you want the beauty of walnut without the rustic vibe.
Bookmatched Slab - I take two slabs from the same log, open them like a book, and join them down the center. The mirrored grain is incredible.
