Bookmatched Walnut Dining Tables
A bookmatched table starts with two consecutive boards cut from the same log, then joined down the center so the grain flows in a perfect mirror image. The result is dramatic, full of movement, and completely one of a kind.
Most of my bookmatched tables are built from Oregon black walnut, sourced exclusively through my partnership with Goby Walnut. I also work with white oak and other Pacific Northwest hardwoods when the right pair of boards becomes available.
Because no two bookmatched pairs are alike, each table is priced individually based on the wood and the build. The process is personal. I'll walk you through what's available, help you see the possibilities, and design something that is perfect for your space. Some pairs are calm and balanced, others are bold and full of energy. The fun is in finding one that speaks to you.
Bookmatched Walnut Slab Inventory
Here is my current selection of bookmatched walnut slabs, ready to become your table.
The hard part is already done. I've found the wood, matched the pair, and prepared it for a table.
Now you get to choose the one you love.
Your Table Starts With the Wood
1. Choose your slab Look through the bookmatched pairs I have in the shop right now. Each one has its own grain, color, movement, and personality.
2. Choose your legs Select the leg style that best fits your space. I'll make the base specifically for your table.
3. I finish the table I'll take the slab through final sanding, finish it by hand, build the base, and bring everything together.
4. It becomes yours A one-of-a-kind table built around a piece of wood you chose yourself.
This is a bookmatched walnut slab, glued up, surfaced, and ready for final finishing. Full live edge on both sides. At 140" long and 46" wide, it seats twelve to fourteen and fills a room the way only a table this size can.
The two slabs were cut from the same tree and opened like a book, so the grain mirrors itself across the centerline from one end to the other. The figure is consistent and flowing throughout, with the kind of symmetry that's only possible with a true bookmatch.
All knots and natural cracks will be filled with epoxy before finishing. Those details are what makes this piece specific to this tree.
The top is glued up and surfaced. When you order, I do the final sanding, apply a Rubio Monocoat finish, and pair it with the leg style of your choice, fabricated by my partners at In Front Metal here in Portland.

This is a single walnut slab with full live edge on both sides and exceptional figure throughout. At 104" long and roughly 40" wide, it seats up to ten comfortably.
The slab is currently unfinished and waiting for the right home. When you order, I finish it in Rubio Monocoat and pair it with the leg style of your choice, fabricated by my partners at In Front Metal here in Portland. What arrives at your door is a complete, ready-to-use table.
The figure on this slab runs from one end to the other. At the top, crotch grain marks where the trunk divided, dramatic and unmistakable. Below it, the grain fans out and sweeps symmetrically down the length of the slab, mirroring itself from edge to edge.
Single slab tables at this length are uncommon. Most 104" walnut tables are made from joined boards. This beauty is one piece

Bookmached Tables I’ve Built
The grain, color, figure, and natural character of each pair determine how I approach the finished table.
These are some of the bookmatched tables I've built in my Portland shop, each one shaped by the character of the wood and the way the two slabs come together.
