Custom Live Edge Dining Tables
A live edge table keeps what most furniture discards, the natural boundary of the tree, with all its curves and organic character intact. I've been building them in Portland for over a decade, and every piece of wood that comes through my shop still gets me excited. These aren't tables that blend in. They anchor a room.
What Is a Live Edge Table?
When a log is cut into boards, the outer edge, the part closest to the bark, can either be trimmed square or left as nature shaped it. Live edge means we leave it. That edge carries the silhouette of the tree: the gentle taper of a wide walnut, the irregular sweep of a white oak, the dramatic undulation of a madrone. No two are alike because no two trees are alike.
The table becomes a record of the tree it came from, its age, its growth, the landscape it once stood in.
How I Build Them
Every live edge table I build starts with the wood. I source exclusively through my partnership with Goby Walnut, my Portland-based supplier of salvaged Pacific Northwest hardwoods. That means I know exactly where every piece comes from, and I can choose wood with genuine character, not just whatever's available. From there, each table is milled, jointed, finished, and fitted with steel legs right here in my Portland shop.
