Custom Walnut Dining Tables Bend, OR
Stumptown Reclaimed is a custom hardwood furniture workshop in Portland, Oregon. I'm John Tamerlano, the one person behind every table that leaves my shop. I've been obsessed with salvaged Pacific Northwest hardwoods since 2013, turning extraordinary raw material into tables that become the centerpiece of someone's home. I build custom dining tables, conference tables, benches, and desks by hand, and walnut is my specialty. Bend has become one of my favorite markets. The design sensibility there is a natural fit for the kind of work I do. Many customers have made the drive over the Cascades to hand-select their wood and pick up their finished table in person, and for those who prefer delivery I ship to Bend as well.
The Wood
Oregon black walnut is the heart of what I do. Salvaged from urban and wild grown trees across Oregon, this wood carries a color range that most people have never seen in furniture. Warm browns layered with purples, blues, and reds that emerge from the grain in patterns that are never repeated. The dramatic figure you get from old growth Oregon trees is something you simply cannot manufacture or source from a commercial lumber yard.
I also work with white oak and madrone when exceptional wood is available. White oak brings a clean, contemporary character with tight grain and striking ray flecks. Madrone is rarer and more dramatic, rich red sweeping through creamy base wood in a way that stops people in their tracks.
All of it comes exclusively through my partnership with Goby Walnut, one of the premier salvaged hardwood suppliers in the world, right here in Portland. Having them in my backyard means I hand-select every board that goes into your table.
The Steel
The steel bases on my tables are fabricated by In Front Metal, a Portland-based metal shop I've been working with for more than ten years. Like me, they are a local one person operation with an uncompromising approach to quality. Every base is built from American steel, available in naturally blackened or natural brushed steel, and fitted with adjustable leveling feet.
I offer five standard leg styles: U legs, Trapezoid, Blade, Curved H, and Parsons. The premium options like the Curved H and Blade involve precise fabrication and careful hand finishing that you can see in the finished piece. Custom leg designs are always welcome.
